Let's talk ball

Aoi's mistakes from the minigame

He made quite a few novice mistakes which were kinds understandable becz he got no clue how to defend. Here are his "mistakes" with time frames of the episode and "what he should had done" instead.

#Timeframe- 3:49

Mistake: attacker charging in and Aoi shuffled towards the centre.

What he should had done: Aoi should had pushed forward in order to close the distance between him and the attacker in order to "pressurize" the attacker.
One of the key parts of defending is "stalling" the attacker in order to creates delays in play and allows your teammates time to comeback and support in defending.

Him giving the attacker time and space made it very easy for the attacker to having thinking time and pick a teammate (for a pass) with ease.
If it wasn't for the midfielder tracking back the attacking team could had easily score a goal.

#Timeframe- 5:12

Mistake: checking position of fellow fullback at the worst possible timing

What he should had done: him checking over his fellow fullback created a delay in the play and that delay was enough for the opposition to win the ball off Aoi.
Aoi just wasn't aware what his fellow fullback doing, although he has a wide range of vision he wasn't able to use it becz he wasn't motivated to.

#Timeframe- 8:09

Mistake: lost in his own world, not playing attention, no focus

What he should had done: the moment Aoi's team lost the ball at 8:16 the opponent teams player passed the ball inwards.
Aoi should had shuffled inwards to cover the centre supporting his CBs (centre backs)
Aoi not covering forced red hair guy to widen up in order to cover the gap Aoi left and that gap gave an shooting opportunity for the attacker.
Ohtomo made a block and in the end Aoi did came back and made a goal-line clearence but all this situation was very much avoidable.

The thing is the closure you are playing of your goal (your own goal, the one you defending) the smallest of mistakes can be fatal.

Understand with this scenario:-

-Forward missed a shot and couldn't score a goal, no problem...better luck nxt time.
-Defender/goalkeeper made an error leading to goal, slandered to hell.

The most difficult positions are infact 1st. Goalkeeper and then 2nd. Defenders.
(If you curious 3rd. goes to midfielders and last goes to forwards)

Although all positions are difficult to play but goalkeeping and defending are positions that require a very high level of focus becz mistakes here are often fatal for the whole team.

A little Bonus: forward is the most easy position.

In forwards to the main striker is even easier to play becz wingers have defensive duties sometimes and they are looked more on the goal creaters.

But the thing about striker is the ever lasting pressure of scoring goals.

Can you take that pressure all the time? This the main question.

If yes then half the job is done but...but... but... the thing about this pressure is it will never go away no matter how many goals you score you will always have to play with this pressure of scoring.

When Akatsu gives life lessons: "The art of not giving a F."

Criticism is part of sports as it is of life.

Criticism is feedback, a self check that can be triggered from both self and others which leads to improvement.

Criticism is necessary and can be a key to improvement if used in a proper way.

But not all kinds of criticism is healthy. There are minor things that can cause major uproars.

I will be honest, football is the world's most toxic game. The reason is simple, it's the biggest sport of the world in terms of popularity.

With more people there are more mouths that speak hence more mouths than can criticize.

Now think about a life where everyday you get thousands of mouths full of criticism either is fair or unfair criticism and ofcourse sometimeshatred.

Yup that's the life of a famous person weather they a celebrity or a sports person or even a normal Joe.

Thing is whatever you do in your life there will always be critics.
What you can do is

1. You learn from them if there criticism is fair.
2. If the criticism is unfair and you think you are doing the right thing and the thing you doing is actually right (with respect to law and society lol) you carry on doing your craft and not give a F. to anyone who unfairly criticizes.

"I hope you guys aren't taking it to the heart". said Akatsu

You shouldn't internalize what others say about you.
Believing in yourself, keeping up your craft, this is called mental toughness and in a life of a sports person mental toughness is a necessity.

Another line Akatsu said this episode "Youth players are more mentally fragile than high school players".

Mental toughness comes with age so naturally it's common seeing the youth being triggered over small matters.

A current time example is Harry Maguire I won't be surprised if you read his name in the meme voice.

He plays for my club, last season he was absolutely horrible, David De Gea said he's the most lethal defender he ever faced (that's a meme my non football watchers) and thus he got a lot of criticism, HATE and BOMB threats....yeah literal bomb threats that includes his family.

An ordinary Joe will absolutely crumble under such circumstances but Maguire showed elite mental toughness (I will credit him for that, although he sucks)

You can literally go and check any social media platforms, you will find his name somewhere if the post is related to defending.

Although Akatsu always speaks with a spicy tongue but here he wasn't really in the wrong in the criticism although his words of speech are unpleasing and bitter.

( I originally planned to discuss the main topic of this episode i.e. "vision" but they stopped the episode at a part where I can't really explain without context from the nxt episode. Although it's football things are kinda obvious but I decided to post it nxt week as things will be more clear along with the episode....)

gigi • 1 year ago

I share your pain too... I'm a UTD fan... The amount of times I wanted to choke Maguire is far too many. He has a good mentality, but I think he should play some other position in the starting 11 maybe as a striker or a midfielder. What do you think?

Yashondowski • 1 year ago

Maguire as a striker is n absolutely horrible idea m8
It can't and will never happen lol

QuadL • 1 year ago

So you're saying he has a chance... (as a mid-fielder)

Kirito • 1 year ago

Midfielders are very important they say

Yashondowski • 1 year ago

No
As of now he's just an overpriced defender and just not good enough. Let's see if ten hag can transform him

Calvin Alexander • 1 year ago

Yeah man, and Ten Hag did it in the last 10 mins against Sociedad

Kirito • 1 year ago

I keep laughing at that guy with 1 tooth in the outside and when they both said ashito is a play maker and there's a picture of ashito posing got me goosebumps

Jibril • 1 year ago

Thanks for this, the anime didn't explain in detail what mistake Aoi did.

Kirito • 1 year ago

So what is the mistake that ashito made is it the ball hitting on that thing or when he got the ball

king kong • 1 year ago

I wouldn't call it a mistake per se, but he was clearing the ball from his own box after a corner but he wanted to start a counter attack by passing it to the player that was high upfield but he shot the ball out of the pitch

king kong • 1 year ago

You made some good points but I don't agree with that first mistake, he should've shuffled a bit more to the centre and forced the attacker out wide instead of pushing forward. Because if he pushed forward he would've created a lot of space in behind him and there would be a big chance that the attacker would've beating him in a 1 on 1 since it's his first time defending, going in for the challenge might have worked for top defenders that can read their opponents but deffo not the MC.

The Manga is done.
Whether they want to animate the rest of the tournament and Hinata after it, is up in the air.

TESK • 1 year ago

Aww man really hope they do... this is why I hate watching anime that havent already finished... considering how many of them never actually get finished.

Kirito • 1 year ago

He's a playmaker I did not expected that

Ken kaneki • 1 year ago

Now the dude just needs to step up his passing techniques and shooting to. He can score from the other side too. He's got the power, just no means to utilize it.

QuadL • 1 year ago

He needs to bulk up too. He'll get pushed around in the defensive backfield and how is a little kid suppose to take balls away from grown high-schoolers half of him taller than himself?! He'll get swallowed up by a flood attack to his side.

Archie Andrew's 1000 • 1 year ago

Yep

Kirito • 1 year ago

I think he should just do what Kuribayashi is doing he kinda has that same talent

Noah Winns-Cromer • 1 year ago

Ashito: I should play here! I'm so **** far away!

Me: .....bro, what were you expecting? You're by the goal!
